Jo For Jonathan (Canada, 2011; 85 min.)
Director: Maxime Giroux

An intimate drama, Jo for Jonathan is the newest work from highly regarded award-winning Quebecois filmmaker Maxime Giroux. Giroux is a director with a precise realistic style and a tendency to populate his stories from the underbelly of society.

Thomas (Courchesne) has everything that Jo (Lacaille) doesn’t. All his life, Jo’s wanted to be like his older brother. Thomas has a job, a car, a hot girlfriend and he gets the respect and attention that Jo desires.

Jo constantly fights with his brother and lives in a world where ambitions amount to little more than a few material possessions. In this dead-end setting, Jo's envy of his brother is a clumsy show of fraternal love.

When Jo fails his driving test he lies to his friends and steals his brother’s car attempting to become a man. But Jo’s increasing delinquency ultimately forces him and his brother into a dangerous situation that takes both their lives on a turn.

Cast: Raphaël Lacaille, Jean-Sébastien Courchesne, Vanessa Pilon, Jean-Alexandre Létourneau
