Tapeworm (US, 2010; 15 min.)
Director: Margaret Laney
A teenage girl steals a tapeworm from her high school science class with the intention of eating it to lose weight.
Teresa is struggling with her body image in the environment of an all-girls preparatory high school. A science class project provides an innovative yet dangerous solution/opportunity: her Internet research of tapeworms leads her to a website called “the tapeworm diet”. The next day, she enlists her best friend/partner in crime, Janie, to help her steal the tapeworm from their dissection laboratory. The girls struggle over who “gets” to eat it. In the end, Theresa rethinks her ideas about the nature of friendship and the dangers of weight loss.
